Federal agencies create, change, and remove Web content without notice. Federal agency Web masters also increasingly develop more and more complex Web sites using dynamic Web technology which makes archiving these sites a challenge. Members of LSCM’s Web Archiving team will share how they are addressing the “messy” issues of the Federal Web and increasing the discoverability and access to Web content through Web harvesting and archiving.

Presentation slides for the Council session that explores how to make discarding easier under current Title 44 regulations and how to change those regulations in order to expedite discarding documents from the perspectives of both regional and selective depositories. The wide variety of interpretations and misconceptions people have about what is and isn't allowed are covered.

Overview of a multi-year project of the Texas Tech Regional to handle strict physical constraints while improving access to their collection and keeping within Title 44 requirements and minimal staffing. Some techniques include de-duping, continuous retro cataloging, and inclusion of government information in all library instruction sessions including the 1 hour LIBR1100 Introduction to Library Research, etc.

The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA), Director of Content, Emily Gore, provides a glimpse of the overarching DPLA service model and provide insight on some of the ways that it is directly benefiting the public. Anthony D. Smith, GPO Director of Projects and Systems, shares with the audience some of the early work that is taking place to bring government information directly to DPLA’s large audience of public users.

The Suggested Core Collections Lists consist of recommended core titles in all subject areas for academic, public, and law libraries acting as depository libraries. The lists were last reviewed and updated in 2007. Agency publication practices have changed over the years, with new titles created and older ones having ceased. Additionally, FDLP regulations and guidance have been updated. It is time for the community to review these lists again and make any necessary changes that will keep them relevant and useful in the current FDLP environment.

Anthony D. Smith provides an overview of the current work underway to develop a comprehensive technology plan for GPO and the FDLP community. This session seeks audience participation and suggestions for creating improved FDLP service functionality that will ultimately help improve meeting the needs of the FDLP community.

The Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) refocused and rebalanced its products to be more in line with its primary mission of acquisition and distribution of DOE sponsored research. As a result, several products have been discontinued. This session focuses on which OSTI products are no longer available and which products you need to be using in the future.
