Title: Introduction to OpenRefine: Using Open Software to Weed and Manage your Government Documents Collection

Description:

Have you ever spent hours cleaning a large Excel file for a weeding project? As Government Documents Librarians we are required to periodically take an inventory of our collection and go through the discarding process of our state library. This often involves exporting large metadata files from an online management system in order to understand our collection. This hands-on training will provide an introduction to OpenRefine, a powerful open source tool for exploring, cleaning, and manipulating “messy” data. Participants will learn how to access and download the free software and obtain hands-on experience standardizing and manipulating a sample dataset from a Government documents weeding project.

Please download OpenRefine before attending this webinar. Instructions on how to freely download the software are located here: tinyurl.com/FDLC2019OPENREFINE
