  • Justin Padilla, Benefits Advisor, U.S. Department of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration

Description:

This webinar introduces you to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) – the agency responsible for administering the Federal law governing workplace retirement and health plans provided by private sector employers. This includes many well-known laws including ERISA, COBRA, and HIPAA.

Viewers will learn how EBSA assures the security of the retirement and health benefits of workers and their families and the resources EBSA has to educate and assist the public in making the most of their workplace-based benefits. Through its three education campaigns – the Saving Matters Retirement Savings Education Campaign, the Fiduciary Education Campaign, and the Health Benefits Education Campaign – EBSA provides education to workers and their families and small business owners to help them understand the law so they are prepared to make informed and timely decisions.

Viewers will be introduced to EBSA’s publications, online tools, and videos for workers that help with basic financial planning including setting goals, budgeting, and managing debt. The resources for workers also help in preparing for a financially secure retirement with information and tools to determine a target retirement saving rate and how much one might spend in retirement. EBSA also has resources to help workers understand the protections under the law for their retirement and health benefit plans.

In addition, viewers will learn about the resources EBSA has for small businesses. For those with no retirement plan, EBSA provides information on the many retirement savings options available; for those with a retirement or health plan, EBSA provides resources to help them understand and comply with the law.

Lastly, viewers will learn how to locate the information on EBSA’s Website – whether they prefer to look by audience, topic, or law – as well as how to order free copies of EBSA publications.
