Alaska Libraries Partner with GPO to Preserve Government Information

Two libraries in Alaska — the Alaska State Court Law Library and the Alaska State Library — have entered into agreements with GPO to become Preservation Stewards. To help libraries meet the needs of efficient Government document stewardship in the digital era, GPO has established Preservation Stewards to support continued public access to U.S. Government documents in print format. These libraries contribute significantly to the effort to preserve printed documents. Through the agreement, many libraries also serve as digital access partners, providing digital access to Government information. More than 60 libraries currently serve as Preservation Stewards across the United States.

• Preserving various current and historical publications, including the United States Code and Code of Federal Regulations

• Preserving Statutes at Large

“We are excited to partner with these libraries, helping us preserve critical pieces of our Nation’s history,” said GPO Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern. “GPO appreciates these two libraries for helping us deliver on our vision of an America Informed.”

“As an alumnus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, I am thrilled that these libraries in Alaska have chosen to work with GPO on the critical need to preserve The National Collection of U.S. Government information,” said GPO Superintendent of Documents Scott Matheson. “GPO is always looking for libraries to help preserve print collections and encourages all libraries to join in on our preservation efforts.”
