GPO Director Names New Members to the Depository Library Council
U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern has appointed five new members to the Depository Library Council (DLC). DLC members advise the GPO Director on policy matters relating to the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and access to U.S. Government information. In addition to experience working in various types of libraries, the new DLC members have experience with and knowledge of current developments in the fields of library science and U.S. Government information. These new members will help position the DLC and the FDLP for the GPO’s vision of an America Informed.
“We are thrilled to welcome these council members whose roles are vital to educating the public on how to access and use Government information,” said Director Halpern. “As council members, their expertise will be fundamental in helping GPO continue to deliver on its vision of an America Informed.”
These five new DLC members will serve from June 1, 2025 – May 31, 2028.
Melanie Sims is the Head of Access Services and Government Information at Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center. She serves as the Depository Coordinator for both Federal and state documents. Sims is an active member of the profession, and she currently serves on committees in the American Association of Law Libraries Government Documents Special Interest Section (GD-SIS) and the American Library Association’s Government Documents Roundtable (GODORT). Sims is a former President of the Louisiana Library Association.
Michael Cerbo is the Head of Government Publications & Metadata and Content Management and Chair of the Technical Services Department at the University of Rhode Island. With more than twenty-five years of experience in an academic library setting, Cerbo’s responsibilities include Government publications, metadata management, electronic resource control, and technical and public services.
Malwina Bardoni Cross is the Head Librarian at the United States Census Bureau and a member of the American Library Association’s Government Documents Round Table (GODORT). She has also worked at various Government agencies, such as the Smithsonian African American History and Culture Museum, the U.S. Naval Academy Museum, and the National Archives and Records Administration.
Ariella Mason is the Special Collections Coordinator for the Fresno County Public Library. This department includes a Federal and State Government Document Repository, a subregional Talking Book Library with the National Library Service, and a Heritage and Genealogy Center housing the California State Collection for the Daughters of the American Revolution, among many other resources.
Jonathan Underwood is an Assistant Professor and the Database Management and Government Documents/Reference Librarian at Tuskegee University. In this role, he assists students, faculty, and staff in locating and utilizing Government information. Previously, he served as the Information Literacy, Reference, and Distance Education Librarian, developing and preparing information literacy classes for students while providing reference and research assistance to students, faculty, and staff.
