GPO Names University of Colorado Boulder Libraries with Best Federal Depository Website

The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) honors the University of Colorado Boulder Libraries for having the best website in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) for 2026. The award recognizes creativity and the ways libraries are providing easy access to Federal Government information on their websites.

University Libraries’ “Keeping Colorado Informed” guide brings together an engaging collection of Government information as part of the USA 250 and Colorado 150 celebrations. The website presents Government documents in clear, easy-to-navigate categories covering topics ranging from history and military affairs to weather, technology, recipes, literature, comics, and plays and skits. It also highlights resources of particular interest to Colorado residents and explains materials featured in the library’s display cases.

“The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries have found a creative and engaging way to connect people with Government information,” said GPO Superintendent of Documents Scott Matheson. “Their ‘Keeping Colorado Informed’ guide shows that Government documents can tell stories, spark curiosity, and help people better understand the history and communities around them. GPO congratulates the University Libraries on this well-deserved recognition.”

“I like to say that if you give me five minutes, I can point you to a Government document you’ll love. Government information touches nearly every part of our lives, and one of my favorite parts of this work is helping people see the history and human effort behind it,” said University Libraries Depository Coordinator Phil Wrede. “Keeping Colorado Informed grew out of my desire to humanize Government information, so it’s especially meaningful to have that work recognized by GPO.”

The University Libraries have a long history of promoting and collecting Government documents, dating to its designation as a Federal Depository Library in 1879.
