In October 2022, Library Services and Content Management’s Library Technical Services (LTS) launched a three-month test to assign terms from the Congressional Research Service’s (CRS’s) Congress.gov Policy Areas terms list, which CRS uses for bills and resolutions on Congress.gov, in Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP) records for congressional publications. The records with the terms are coded with Subfield $2 cgpa in the 650 field. Below are links to examples of the policy areas term, Transportation and Public Works, in the 650 field with the source code cgpa in the MARC view:

CGP System No. 001207218

Title: 21st century communities : local leaders on the infrastructure needs facing America’s states, cities, and towns

A complete record set may be retrieved by this CGP expert mode search: wlts=PUBPOLTERMS.

We have compiled preliminary data about the records that LTS staff members cataloged in the first month of the test. LTS staff members have added terms to records for 299 publications and have used 29 (90.6%) of the 32 terms in the list.
