Regional Status Change for Two FDLs

Changes are coming to the regional Federal depository library coverage across the nation. The following libraries will no longer be able to serve as regional libraries for selective libraries in their states:

  • University of Nevada, Reno: Effective August 31, 2011
  • Library of Michigan*: Effective October 1, 2011.

With two regional libraries changing to selective library status as well as Wyoming’s termination of service agreement with the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2009, there will now be three states without regional libraries to carry out their regional responsibilities.

Libraries without a regional are reminded that they may not weed their physical collections or substitute depository material until a new regional library or an approved service agreement is put into place to provide regional services.

The U.S. Government Printing Office appreciates the many years of service that these libraries have provided as regionals. Libraries in the states of Michigan and Nevada are an integral part of the network of Federal depository libraries.

* The State Library of Michigan has been working with the University of Minnesota to develop a service agreement for the provision of regional services for selective libraries, but the agreement has not yet been approved by the Joint Committee on Printing of the U.S. Congress.
