The U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) was recognized with one of the highest honors at the 8th annual American Business Awards ceremony in New York City. GPO won the Stevie Award for Organization of the Year in the Government Agency or Non-profit category. The American Business Awards honor the achievements and contributions of organizations and executives worldwide. Companies such as Apple Computer, Ford Motor Company and Oracle Corporation also took part in the award competition.

"It’s been an honor to lead GPO’s 2,300 employees as we continue to transition from a traditional printing operation to a printing, digital media and secure credentialing facility,” said Public Printer Bob Tapella. “This American Business Award is a testament to the great work GPO has been doing for the past 150 years.”

GPO’s Chief Information Officer Mike Wash was named a finalist in the Information Technology Executive of the Year category. Wash and his team are credited with launching GPO’s Federal Digital System (FDsys) and supporting the Obama Administration's open government initiatives. FDsys ensures permanent, public access to official and authentic government information.
