Coastal Zone Information Collection Available on FDsys

In collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center, the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) is providing digital access to the Coastal Zone Information Collection (CZIC), which contains more than 5,000 coastal related documents. The collection provides nearly 30 years of data and information crucial to the understanding of U.S. coastal management and NOAA’s mission to sustain healthy coasts. NOAA sought GPO’s preservation repository services on FDsys after planning to discontinue public access to the collection.

"GPO is delighted to partner with NOAA Coastal Services Center to provide permanent public access to the valuable digital Coastal Zone Information Collection,” said GPO’s Superintendent of Documents Mary Alice Baish. “GPO encourages Federal agencies to take advantage of FDsys’ preservation repository capabilities as a way to ensure longevity and provide the public with permanent access to their Federal documents.”

The documents contained in the CZIC were originally submitted to the NOAA Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (OCRM) by state coastal zone management programs in accordance with the Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA) of 1972. The collection on FDsys features documents from 1951-1999.

"This collection represents an important historical overview of our nation's coastal zone management policies," says Donna McCaskill, communications manager for the NOAA Coastal Services Center. "GPO's Federal Digital System allows us to provide this information to a broader audience we otherwise wouldn't have been able to reach."
