The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern welcomes Archivist of the United States David S. Ferriero as the keynote speaker for the Fall 2020 Federal Depository Library Conference. Ferriero, who has served 11 years as the Archivist of the United States at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), is set to speak to about 600 members of the library community at the virtual conference on October 20.

“GPO and the National Archives have a great working relationship, and we are honored that the Archivist will be a part of this event,” said GPO Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern. “The Archivist’s remarks will be invaluable for our Nation’s librarians in continuing to encourage their visitors to access Federal documents and in helping GPO carry out its mission Keeping America Informed.”

Previously, Ferriero served as the Andrew W. Mellon Director of the New York Public Libraries (NYPL). He was part of the leadership team responsible for integrating the four research libraries and 87 branch libraries into one seamless service for users, creating the largest public library system in the United States and one of the largest research libraries in the world.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Depository Library Conference will be an all-virtual event and will be presented over four days from October 20–23, 2020. Attendees may participate from anywhere, and the event is free. Join GPO as we live tweet this annual event using #FDLConference.
