  • Speaker: David Herring, Communication Division Chief, NOAA Climate Program Office
  • Learning outcomes:Americans' health, security, and economic well-being are closely linked to climate and weather. People want and need information to help them manage their climate-related risks and opportunities. NOAA Climate.gov is an online source of timely and authoritative scientific data and information about climate. Our goals are to promote public understanding of climate science and climate-related events, to make our data products easy to access and use, and to serve people seeking data and information.
  • The site offers three audience-focused sections:

    1. News & Features: a popular-style magazine for the science-interested public covering topics in climate science, adaptation, and mitigation.
    2. Maps & Data: a gateway to reusable maps and datasets that document a wide range of climatic and environmental conditions.
    3. Teaching Climate: a vetted, curated collection of learning activities and curriculum materials for formal and informal educators who want to teach about climate.

Participants in this session will go on a guided tour of the site, with some discussion on how its scope and design were informed by social science research, and how user feedback is guiding its evolution.
