Resumption of GPO Services

LSCM would like to update depository library staff on the resuming GPO services, and potential impacts on depository operations.

Distribution of shipments
Distribution of print and microfiche shipments has resumed. Normal processing will continue, and an increased influx of boxes or shipments should not be necessary. The last of the FY13 boxes are being processed on 10/17 and 10/18. Some microfiche shipping lists in production just prior to the shutdown are being modified to reflect a new shipment date.

LSCM systems
The Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP), DSIMS, Item Lister, PURL server, etc. are up and running. LSCM staff in Acquisitions, Classification, and Cataloging are in regular production mode.

Catalog Record Distribution Project (CRDP)
Libraries signed up to receive free catalog records through the CRDP will see a slight delay in records being distributed. Catalog records for the month of September went to MARCIVE for processing on 10/17. GPO catalogers were not able to work during the shutdown; creating an absence of cataloging records during that time period. Therefore the catalog record load covering October’s records will be smaller than normal.

Amendment of item selection profiles
Changes made to item selection profiles in DSIMS are in effect, as scheduled. All amendments to selection profiles made in DSIMS prior to October 1 are in effect. Distribution of publications is being managed according to the amended profiles.

Many questions were received during the shutdown. LSCM staff are currently working through the backlog; staff members are generally addressing older ones first.

LSCM thanks the community for bearing with us as we return from the 16-day shutdown.
