Item Numbers 0556-C and 1004-E Are Not Required for Selective Libraries

Effective August 2014, LSCM will no longer use item numbers 0556-C and 1004-E. These numbers were used to distribute tangible titles to all libraries. The Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) Forecast Study results were clear: depository libraries need the ability to carefully select only those titles they require. This rescinds Regulation 10 in Legal Requirements & Program Regulations of the Federal Depository Library Program.

As always, libraries can change, add or remove item numbers in their profile at any time using the Depository Selection Information Management System (DSIMS). New tangible item numbers become effective October 1. Libraries wishing to continue to receive print or other tangible formats for specific agency publications (e.g., List of Classes) should ensure the item numbers associated with those tangible titles remain on their selection profiles.

Questions about this change should be directed to askGPO. Select the category “Federal Depository Libraries” and subcategory “Legal Requirements & Program Regulations.”
