Public Health Reports: Upcoming Changes

Beginning in July 2016, Public Health Reports (PHR) (HE 20.30:, item number 0497-A-01), the official journal of the U.S. Public Health Service, will be published by SAGE Publishing. The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), which has published PHR since 1999, will continue to work with SAGE and the Office of the Surgeon General.

As a result of the change in publisher, Federal depository libraries will no longer have complete access to the most recent 12 months of the journal. Portions of PHR, Federal recommendations, guidelines, the Surgeon General’s perspectives column, abstracts, and content from ASPPH, will remain open access. All other content will be behind a subscription wall for 12 months. At the end of those 12 months, all PHR content for an issue is available via PubMed Central and through the FDLP. A complete archive of PHR and its predecessor titles is also available via PubMed Central.

ASPPH does not yet have a firm date for the change to Federal depository library access to the current 12 months of the journal. An update will be posted to FDLP News and Events once an exact date is known.
