Take a Sneak Peek at the 2015 DLC Meeting & FDL Conference Poster Presentations

The 2015 Depository Library Council Meeting and Federal Depository Library Conference, coming up October 19 – 21 in Arlington, Virginia, will include poster presentations from Federal depository library colleagues throughout the country and U.S. territories. Meeting and Conference attendees will be able to view the posters between Monday, October 19 at 10:00 a.m. and Tuesday, October 20 at 5:00 p.m. You can also meet and talk with the poster presenters at the Poster Session on Tuesday, October 20 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

In the meantime, read the Poster Presentation handout, which includes the titles, descriptions, and presenter information for each poster you will see in October.

Serials Processing Working Group

Help your library users with Government information in multiple languages. View the FDLP Academy webinar: Not Just in English Anymore: Locating and Using Government Resources in Other Languages. Find publications in over 100 different languages in the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications, including:

Point Spanish speakers to resources in the Spanish Language Documents: Online Resources LibGuide and distribute FDLP brochures in Spanish, available through Order FDLP Promotional Materials for both for depository and non-depository library audiences.

Serials Processing Working Group

Take a closer look at all the Congressional Serial Set contains on American Indian and Alaskan Natives. Our partner at the University of Oklahoma College of Law has a wonderful digital collection of American Indian and Alaskan Native documents published in the Serial Set from 1817-1899.

Here are just a couple of examples of what you find:

Yellow Fever

Katrina Stierholz served on the DLC from 2006-2009. She has continued her work at the St. Louis Fed, where she works on ensuring that the public has access to economic data through FRED, economic and financial documents through FRASER, and economic curriculum through Econ Lowdown. Stierholz was a founding member of the Missouri Hub, a project to connect Missouri institutions to DPLA. Currently, she is working on leveraging FRED as a tool for data literacy activities for librarians and other educators.

June is Great Outdoors Month! it’s time to encourage people to get outside and recreate responsibly! Whether they are headed to a national park or other lands protected with the help of NPS programs and partners, let visitors know how they can experience, enjoy, and learn from the outdoors. As we continue to also celebrate 100 Years of Health, share the importance of health for all and how every person can benefit from being outdoors.

GPO congratulates FDLP veteran, Dotty Ormes on her retirement from Southern Oregon University. Dotty devoted 20 years to working with Government documents. She “loved exploring the stories behind Government documents and coming to the FDL Conference in D.C. to give presentations about my work with students.” Thank you, Dotty, for your years of work and dedication!
