Partnership Showcase - Meet GPO’s Newest Preservation Stewards: the Raymond H. Folger Library at the University of Maine, Orono, the Law Library of San Bernardino County, and the University of South Carolina, Thomas Cooper Library

The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) is excited to introduce three new Preservation Stewards:

  • the Raymond H. Folger Library at the University of Maine, Orono
  • the Law Library of the San Bernardino County
  • the University of South Carolina, Thomas Cooper Library

  • The Raymond H. Folger Library at the University of Maine, Orono is serving as a Preservation Steward for its complete collection of the Public Papers of the Presidents. As part of its Preservation Steward responsibilities, the library decided to change the circulating status of the volumes to in-library use only. This allows continued access to the volumes while providing an added layer of security.

The Folger Library has a long history of commitment to the FDLP and Government information, which made the decision to serve as a Preservation Steward an easy one. In addition to serving as a depository library since 1907 and a regional library beginning in 1964, the library is also Maine’s land and sea grant university. Greg Curtis, the Regional Federal depository librarian, says the Folger Library is “committed to retention in the Northeast and nationally as part of our regional status for Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.”

  • The Law Library of San Bernardino County is also serving as Preservation Steward for Presidential-related publications.

    • Public Papers of the Presidents (complete collection)
    • Proclamations and Executive Orders: Herbert Hoover
    • Proceedings of the United States Senate in the Impeachment Trial of William Jefferson Clinton

Thanks to the stewardship of the Folger Library and the Law Library of San Bernardino County, there are now two geographically-dispersed Preservation Stewards for the Public Papers of the President.

The Thomas Cooper Library at the University of South Carolina has become a Preservation Steward for a number of titles and collections.
