U.S. Federal Government Agency Directory

Louisiana State University (LSU) logo.

The Troy H. Middleton Library at Louisiana State University (LSU) has been providing the public with a quick and easy way to locate the Web sites of Federal agencies since 1994. Based on the U.S. Government Manual, the Federal Government Agency Directory provides links to the Web sites of current and active Federal agencies.
The Directory is divided into seven sections:

  • Boards, Commissions, Committees
  • Executive
  • Executive Office of the President
  • Independent
  • Judicial
  • Legislative
  • Quasi-Official

Users may browse each section, which lists the agencies within it in alphabetical order. Indentions are used to indicate an office’s place in the hierarchy. While not every level of an organization is listed in the Directory’s hierarchy, the larger agencies, such as the Department of Education, the General Services Administration, and the Library of Congress, have some of their sub-organizations listed underneath them.  Additionally, users may conduct keyword searches of agency names. A search for “mediation,” for example, will bring up the entries for the National Mediation Board and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.

For assistance in locating information on discontinued commissions/agencies, the LSU Directory guides users to the University of North Texas’s CyberCemetery. The Directory also provides users with pointers in the FAQ section on how to locate information on topics such as:

  • Grants and funding sources
  • Internet fraud
  • Jobs
  • Laws and regulations
  • Military records
  • Passports/visa
  • Veterans’ affairs

As one of the first U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) service partners in 1997, LSU has been a key participant in providing easy-to-use tools for the public to use when searching for U.S. Government information. GPO is pleased to continue to partner with LSU to provide access to the Federal Government Agency Directory. Thank you, LSU!

FDLP Connection Archive

We have sunsetted the FDLP Connection with the July / August 2018 issue and will not be publishing the Connection anymore. We’ve enjoyed bringing the FDLP Connection to the community over the years! You can still view past issues. View full archive (2011-2018).
