Breathing New Life into FDLP Marketing Materials

Marketing the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) is accomplished in two ways.

  1. The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) performs marketing activities to create awareness of the FDLP.
  2. GPO provides FDLP libraries with marketing tools and resources so they may promote themselves directly to their patrons, locally in their own communities.

Every few years, GPO’s Library Services and Content Management (LSCM) unit refreshes the marketing tools and resources that we provide to Federal depository libraries. Following this same timeline, LSCM also develops new marketing campaigns for use by both GPO and FDLP libraries.
This summer, we are unveiling our newest campaign, “Access U.S. Government Information – On the Go and On the Shelf.”
Along with the new campaign, coming this fall, Federal depository libraries will also have access to:

  • New, free promotional materials and brochures for order from GPO
  • A new digital toolkit, with downloadable images and media files for use on library websites
  • A guide to promoting your library via social media
  • Revamped web pages on FDLP.gov with promotional advice
  • A refreshed Guidance article on the Visibility of the Depository Library and Collection
  • An educational webinar about promotion and social media

What’s more, GPO will be undertaking new promotional activities on behalf of the FDLP. We are preparing a new, nationwide media campaign to promote the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications. In addition, we are working on an initiative to reach out to colleges and universities with undergraduate and graduate Library Science programs, in order to create an awareness of the FDLP and its resources to librarians, even before they enter the workforce.

If you are planning to attend the American Library Association’s (ALA’s) Annual Conference, come visit GPO at Booth #2104 where we will be happy to talk with you about the exciting things we have planned. Stay tuned to FDLP.gov and the News and Events email alert service for announcements about new products and resources.

FDLP Connection Archive

We have sunsetted the FDLP Connection with the July / August 2018 issue and will not be publishing the Connection anymore. We’ve enjoyed bringing the FDLP Connection to the community over the years! You can still view past issues. View full archive (2011-2018).
