The 2012 FDLP Promotion Plan

The staff in Library Services & Content Management (LSCM) have been analyzing the data and the preliminary results of the FDLP Forecast Study’s Library Forecast Questionnaire and also the data collected from the most recent Biennial Survey. One of the themes that rose to the top is the ongoing need for assistance with promotion and marketing. Over the last several years, LSCM has launched several promotional initiatives for depository libraries, and this summer will see a brand new promotional plan, a new Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) promotional campaign, and a new set of free promotional (virtual and print) tools from the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO).

The 2012 FDLP promotional campaign will feature the slogan, Government Information at Your Fingertips: Federal Depository Libraries. Accompanying that slogan is a suite of new promotional and educational brochures, public service announcements for local radio stations, screensavers for library computers, new depository signage, digital images for library Web sites, and more. What’s more, also included for depository libraries are ideas for how to use the new tools, right in their library and online. Additionally, the plan for depositories will include details on the importance of promoting the FDLP at the local level. New with this year’s Promotional Plan is a focus on social media and electronic resources.

We’ve brought together original promotional strategies from GPO with innovative ideas from colleagues in the FDLP community to present depositories with a wide-ranging set of promotional options to bring awareness to the FDLP and the individual libraries around the country.

Stay tuned to fdlp-l and fdlp.gov for announcements on the availability of the plan and the new tools in the coming weeks. We hope that you will join us for the fall 2012 Depository Library Council Meeting & Federal Depository Library Conference where the new campaign and plan will be presented at length.

Remember, fdlp.gov offers numerous current promotional resources for FDLP libraries including promotional videos, the 2008 and 2010 FDLP Marketing Plans, audio public service announcements, and more.
