In 2006, the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) received the retirement news of both Public Printer, Bruce James and Superintendent of Documents, Judy Russell. While the agency waits for a new public printer to be nominated and confirmed, the nomination of a new Superintendent of Documents will be delayed. In the interim, Ric Davis, the Director of Library Services & Content Management will be the acting Superintendent of Documents.

In taking on this new role, Mr. Davis states,

"I am confident that the Federal Depository Library Program can only strengthen as we work together to fulfill our shared mission of "Keeping America Informed". Both the GPO staff and I look forward to continuing our efforts to modernize and improve permanent public access to Government information".
