About the Program

The FDLP Coordinator Certificate Program presents an opportunity for FDLP coordinators to take in depth virtual classes on managing depository collections in compliance with the Legal Requirements & Program Regulations of the Federal Depository Library Program. It brings together GPO and depository libraries in a new way to strengthen and improve the FDLP. The program is free to participants, and open to the public. It is conducted virtually through the FDLP Academy.

At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic competencies of managing a Federal depository collection. A certificate will be issued at the completion of the program to certify the work performed and knowledge obtained.

About the Classes

The series of eight online classes that make up the program is led by GPO personnel from the Library Services and Content Management (LSCM) Office of Outreach and Support. Class size is limited to 25 participants to a cohort in order to facilitate discussion and interaction throughout the program. The program includes required weekly readings and writing assignments, discussions, polls, webinars, and assessments/quizzes.

Weekly webinars will focus on topics such as legal requirements and regulations, collection management, cataloging, the SuDoc item number system, policies, LSCM services and products, and regional responsibilities.

The eight classes are:

  • Class One: Introduction to the FDLP and GPO
  • Class Two: Legal Requirements and Regulations
  • Class Three: What’s in the Box?
  • Class Four: Depository Collection Management
  • Class Five: Public Access
  • Class Six: Cataloging and Bibliographic Control
  • Class Seven: Regionals
  • Class Eight: Wrap Up

Unable to Commit to an Eight-Week Program?

For those unable to commit to the full eight week program, recorded webcasts of the classes are available. The webcasts do not include any class participation, discussions, quizzes, weekly readings, and writing assignments that are normally part of the CCP.

The recordings may be viewed at any time. Viewers may opt to view only the recordings of interest to them, but are encouraged to watch the recordings in order, so they may benefit from how the classes build off of one another.

The webcasts are accessible via the FDLP Academy Webinar and Webcast Archive, listed as the FDLP Depository Operation Training Series. The recordings and accompanying slides are available for download.
