GPO Welcomes a New Librarian to its Staff

This month, we have the pleasure to introduce our newest member of the Library Services & Content Management (LSCM) team. Yalan Qi joined us in August as an Automation Librarian in Library Technical Information Services (LTIS).

Yalan graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Master’s Degree in Library Science and a Master’s Degree in Education. Prior to working at the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO), Yalan served as a Systems Librarian for 14+ years at the University of Maryland McKeldin Library. For the last three years, she managed the ILS team who provided ILS system support to the entire Maryland consortium, which is composed of 14 institutions and 16 libraries. Yalan’s experience with a plethora of technical information services greatly enhances LSCM’s corporate knowledge, which will be invaluable in meeting the goals of GPO and the FDLP.

As an Automation Librarian, Yalan provides technical support and advice; while also analyzing LTIS system applications. Currently, she is assisting in the implementation of the Aleph Acquisitions Module and system migration from GPO’s mainframe ACSIS to Aleph.

Yalan has a demonstrated passion for librarianship and she reflects on her new job by saying, “I feel very much welcomed by my new team and the colleagues I have met so far. My special thanks go to my manager, Linda Resler, who has made all the arrangements so that I can receive the needed support. I have worked in public and academic libraries. Now I am working for the Federal Government; it will be a unique and valuable experience in my professional career.”
