AALL Annual Meeting & Conference 2009

The 102nd American Association of Law Libraries’ (AALL) Annual Meeting and Conference is being held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., July 25-28, 2009.  More information about the AALL conference can be found on AALL's Web site.

The U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) will be presenting at several sessions in addition to hosting a booth exhibit. The hours for the booth exhibit include:

  • Sunday, July 26, from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Monday, July 27, from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 28, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Staff from Library Services and Content Management, the Project Management Office, and Publication and Information Sales will be present to answer attendee’s questions about the Federal Depository Library Program and GPO initiatives.

Meanwhile, GPO personnel will be presenting at the following sessions:

  • Monday, July 27, 8:45 a.m. - Brave New Frontier of Government Documents Librarianship

Presented by Kathryn Brazee, Outreach Librarian, Education and Outreach, this session is for all librarians interested in, or who work with, government documents collections.  The panelists will discuss their experiences working with government documents as well as their collection management practices. (60 minutes)

  • Monday, July 27, 4:00 p.m. - Evaluating Federal e-Life Cycle Management—A Town Meeting with OMB, NARA and GPO

This session includes Robert Tapella, Public Printer as a panelist and measures the new Administration’s ability to guarantee the creation and preservation of government information and examines the policies of OMB, NARA, and GPO in maintaining electronic records. (75 minutes)

  • Tuesday, July 28, 2:30 p.m. - Advocating for Authentication of and Permanent Public Access to Electronic Government Legal Information

Presented by Lisa Russell, Content Manager, Planning and Development, Content Management, this session deals with access to online legal information.  Panelists examine how to properly authenticate and preserve this information. (45 minutes)

  • Tuesday, July 28, 2:30 p.m. - Law Libraries and the Federal Depository Library Program—How Can This Marriage Be Saved?

Panelists, including Richard Davis, Director, Library Services and Content Management, Acting Superintendent of Documents, will be discussing the positives and negatives of depository status, specifically for law libraries, and will offer reasons for why law libraries would benefit from remaining in the Federal Depository Library Program. (45 minutes)
