The Public Printer, Bob Tapella, recently visited two Federal depository libraries in Des Moines, Iowa. At Drake University’s Cowles Library, Mr. Tapella visited a traveling Abraham Lincoln exhibition, “Abraham Lincoln A Man of His Time, A Man for All Times.” While at Drake University’s Opperman Law Library, he viewed the home of the National Bar Association Archives. Both libraries house their own depository collections and the Public Printer was glad to see the collections were well taken care of by the depository library staff. The two libraries are the largest depository libraries in Des Moines.
Mr. Tapella was in Iowa to give the keynote address at the “Printing Royale – 25th Anniversary Gallery of Printing Excellence Banquet”, hosted by the Printing Industries of the Midlands and the Midwest Printing and Graphics Association. The event was part of a nationwide celebration of International Printing Week, which is an annual celebration to develop public awareness of the printing/graphic arts industry. The week long celebration coincided with Benjamin Franklin’s birthday, January 17th.
